ArchivalResource

Gilmer family papers, 1855-1909.

The collection contains a copy of Young's "Arithmetical dictionary or book of reference" used as a file for letters, poems, clippings, pressed flowers, etc. Several of the poems appear to have been copied by members of the Proffitt family of Albemarle County, Va. Of interest are a class book for Bingham's Church, 1855; and a letter from George C. Gilmer to John Morris regarding an upcoming trial in which his opponents have "summoned some thirty six whites & blacks against me."

ca. 25 items.
